Guest Blog: How to Become a Nail Tech pt. 2

So...I haven't had any feedback on part 1; if you have any specific questions, please do not hesitate to ask! On to part 2!

Once you've made a decision as to whether you really want to do this, and you've done all your research, its time to look for financial aid. There is money out there, you just have to put in the time to find it! You will likely still have to get a student loan, but payback arrangements are usually reasonable. Don't get discouraged!

Hit up your friends, family, their kids, anyone you can get to allow you to perform a service! The more practice you get, the better you will become! Enhancements, manicures, pedicures, art...all take practice! If this is your passion, it will never really feel like work!

As far as clients you work on in school: most will tell you they will follow you wherever...please don't take it personally if they don't! Once you are making your living as a tech, school prices look pretty great to those clients. Just remember, you get what you pay for!

This is a very rewarding industry...it is also one with ridiculous hours. Evenings and weekends, very long days, and sometimes just sitting, waiting, hoping for a walk-in! Marketing can be tiresome and sometimes expensive, (look for deals, barter if possible), but it will be beneficial, if done right. Running seasonal or monthly specials is a great way to get people in the door and show 'em what you can do! Networking with neighboring businesses, others in your industry, podiatrists, dermatologists; using social media; business webpages/blogs...all these offer you almost endless possibilities when it comes to networking!
I'm gonna wrap it up for tonight! Be well!

  2. Thanks for the information. I've kind of played with the idea of going to school to become a nail tech, but after reading this I think perhaps it's not the right choice for me.
