NYE Nails after the fact

Hi guys!!!! I've missed you :D I was on vacation from work and work is where I get the most done on here too lol. But now I'm back (even though it means I have to wear clothes again not my WalMart finest lol) and ready to get stuff done! 

I didn't actually do my nails on NYE like the rest of the world. I wasn't feeling very well and just wasn't up to it. I figured okay, I'll do them in time for Frugal Polish's mini NYE nail contest...Yeah that didn't happen either lol. Okay then they'll be done in time for Shelly's Sassy Nails' Sassy Saturday contest. They were somewhat done but I just wasn't happy with them so didn't submit. 

I used Rock N Roll by Wet N Wild from the first Fergie collection:

But kind of plain lookin in the pics :( Every once in a while I would catch some pow of the little round holo glitters. Overall I like the mani but it wasn't my favorite by any means lol. 

Application of this polish was pretty decent in general. I did have to really fish for the holo glitters though. I also am not a fan of these type of brushes which are the same in the Insta Dri. You know...the flat wide plastic part of the brush and the brush head is really big and rounded all weird. Might be good for full nail coverage but terrible for trying to do french tips! 

The polish took a ton of coats to get that opaque plus another couple trying to get the stupid glitters. I really didn't want to use underwear though based on a little testing. So as a result I had a ton of polish on my tips! How'd I fix it? I used Tip Top Nails Toughen Up base coat which I've been using for the past few months, 1 coat of Savvy USA Blush, and tons of top coat. I literally just kept piling on the top coat until it was even with all the damn glitter. I couldn't even count how many coats it was anymore. Once it was even I did a full layer of top coat and wrapped my tips. 

It was terrible, almost like a full set of acrylics with a glitter tip. I think it'll be relegated to the "pretty collection" not the "wear it a lot" pile lol. I did try to add some things with acrylic paints but nothin looked right so I took it off using rubbing alcohol (erases all mistakes made with acrylic paint!) and left it alone. I wish I would have: 1. Used the glue method (taking it off was terrible and I had to revert to the foil method) and 2. Remembered I wanted to mattify it before I took it off :(

Try It On Tuesday: Blue Water Marble

Today is Try It On Tuesday and quite a few of us nail bloggers participate. I tried last week but my polish just wouldn't cooperate lol. Luckily I got something workable this week :) So the first one I'll show you is a fail. I did my pinkie, ring finger and middle last night and they came out good but when I tried to do my thumb and index finger it just didn't want to work well at all.

Looks like crap right? Yeah, I thought so too. I ended up taking those two off and re-doing them until they looked decent:

Jen of Jen's Nail Files sent me the fimo slices recently (thanks again Jen you rock!) and the rhinestones I got in a temporary tattoo kit. Sorry for the horrible lack of cleanup but I don't really like this and am thinking hard about taking it off lol. The polishes I used for this Try It On Tuesday mani are: 

WnW- Bijou Blue (used previously)

Fingerpaints- Cerulean Seascape (not used before)

Orly- Blue Collar (not used before)

China Glaze- Sexy In The City (can't remember if I've used it or not lol)

Sinful Colors- Why Not (don't think I've used it before)

Sinful Colors- Love Nails (probably used it before but no idea for sure)

Fingerpaints- Laugh My Art Off (used previously here)

Butterflies!

If you hang around my Facebook page then you may know that I recently got a ring from Copious. While I love the ring it does have the capability to turn me green lol (thank man for clear fingernail polish!) You may also know that I was having quite a bit of trouble the other day with Sally Hansen's Blizzard Blue. I REALLY REALLY wanted to use it to do a mani that matched my gorgeous new ring so I decided to try it again before I called it crap and got rid of it. It didn't want to dry at all and it was ridiculously bubbly :( 
2 coats of Sally Hansen's Blizzard Blue (FAIL) and the ring:

Can you tell how bad that is? Seriously, it was complete crap. But try again!
3 coats this time, stamped with Kleancolor Metallic Aqua and Sapphire and 1 coat of Kleancolor Chunky Holo Teal: 

Woohoo! Better definitely though the Blizzard Blue still didn't want to play nice :( 

And with the ring :) So what do you think? Have you ever tried to match jewelry with a mani? Would you?

Born Pretty? Pffft No Thanks!

I would like to start off this post noting that this is MY blog and as such I will post whatever I'd like to. I also know that how well things go with this blog depends on you my readers so I try to keep things clean and upbeat. This will NOT be one of those posts. This post is a rant. 


If you have been reading for a while you may know that I purchased some stamping plates from The Born Pretty Store (post seen here). Now I got a lot of plates all at once for my birthday and as I don't always do a stamping mani I haven't gotten around to trying all of them yet though I used a Born Pretty plate for this mani seen here. I picked that image out and tried it and it worked great so I felt comfortable thinking that like all of my other plates I wouldn't have a problem. I went ahead and replied back to their email saying yes I had received my order and that all appeared well. 


This was absolutely not the case! I tried to use another plate on my last mani seen here and here. I found a super cute flower and figured I would just stamp it real quick since we were on our way to a party and I just wanted a little something extra. The first one I picked didn't work at all no matter what polish I tried or which stamper I used. In fact no matter what I did it wouldn't work. SO I tried a different plate. That one wouldn't work either. Well by then I didn't have time to keep messing around and just used a different set (MASH ) and found an image hurried up and stamped so we wouldn't be late. 


I pretty much put it out of mind with everything that has been goin on here lately figuring I would get back to it later and keep trying. I was supposed to do someone else's nails the other day and I knew they would want Hello Kitty and since my BP plates were the only ones I have with that image I pulled them out again to practice and get some ideas. I was pretty annoyed when it refused to work (I could only pick up a corner of the bow). 


So I emailed the customer service who had previously been so nice and I waited for a reply. Now anytime I have had to deal with something like this before the company is generally very reasonable. I figured it would be a somewhat simple matter to correct, after all I had spent good money on these items. I got an email back giving me advice telling me to take off the film and "that it is impossible that the plates can't work well". 


Maybe this wouldn't offend you but let me tell you I was VERY offended. Basically I felt I was being called an idiot. In two emails they are saying its not their product but me that is the issue. Now I had already told them that I was a blogger before (I had emailed them asking for a coupon code to share with you guys). So it's not like I'm exactly inexperienced with stamping and the mechanics of it all. I emailed them back Friday less than a minute after I had received an email from them telling them I felt I was being blamed for an issue I feel to be theirs, that I was sure it was a mistake in quality not a deliberate issue and that I had already tried everything they suggested and nothing would work. 


They have ignored that last email so I emailed them today telling them that due to their complete disregard of this issue I would never purchase anything from them again and that I would urge everyone else I could to do so as well. Will they get back to me? I doubt it. I am one person and they are popular with bloggers due to sending items for free to be reviewed. Where I sit right now out of 12 plates 5 do not work at all, 4 plates almost all the images work and 3 work somewhat (one plate only 2 images work). 


I hate to say a bad word about anybody but after this kind of 'customer care' I would never ever do business with them again and I hope you all think about this issue if you decide to. I also know I'm not the only one who has had issues and gotten the run-around.

Nails Of The Week

So after a couple of back to back busy weekends I've gotten a little behind :( So I'm goin to play catch up with this post and post again tomorrow :)

So I started off with something completely different: 

Sinful Colors What's Your Name

Excuse my file in the pic lol I was just kind of taking as I go shots. My original plan was to do black with neon blue tips in a funky french. Needless to say I really didn't like it at all.

My hands aren't always very steady so I thought I would cover the lines up with tiny blue microbeads which probably led to my dislike of it. I ended up taking the whole thing off and just doing the Inkblot Blue. And of course I love glitter so I added the Laugh My Art Off which is beautiful blue glittery prettiness :) 
The What's Your Name has so much pretty blue/green subtle shimmer I had to take a few pics to share:

Hard to see it really in the pics but believe me its there. I probably would have used Wet N Wild Black Creme but it ran out half-way through a water marble I was doin before this. Supa sad face :( So I gave up took the whole water marble off and went to bed. (By the way I live right next to a Walgreen's and they havent stocked more of the WnW black in like 2 weeks, Grrr! Ok well I gotta go and figure out something to do with what I got goin on with my nails now, as always thanks for stoppin by :)

Nails of the week? Probably not.

So here are my nails of the week:

I started out with Nina Ultra Pro in Blu Blaze which in the bottle is a really pretty neon blue kind of color. On the nails though it dries into a matte dark blue. Its super streaky and dries so quickly it actually was difficult to work with. But I persisted and this is 3 coats later. Oh yeah, and I still had visible nail lines :( So I added some tips using LA Colors Craze  silver which has no name but has the code BCC 571. And then since that was just kinda blah I did some stamping with MASH plate 08. I know how hard it is to get every stamp perfect so I deliberately changed the angle of the stamp so I'd get different results. It did end up glossy after topcoating but I'm still not very happy with it.

 I did my toes at the same time and they came out super cute, all springtime-y which is why I grabbed the Nina in the first place since it seemed like a spring type color in the bottle :( 

Do you have any Nina polishes? Are they all like that? This is the only bottle I have of this brand. 

I'll probably end up re-doing them this week at some point, just depends what all is goin on and how much I continue to hate them lol. As always thanks for stopping by :) 

New Nails, an ouch! and Naked Nails

 My last mani was lookin pretty bad so I decided to redo my nails despite being pretty busy this weekend. So here's a pic of my naked nails after filing to a more square shape:

Unfortunately between the time of taking the polish off, showering and getting dressed my thumbnail got bent back hence the ouch in the title:

But no worries, it didn't really break just kind of cracked. I'm not sure really all I know is its ok and I put new polish on it after covering the whole nail in strengthener/hardener lol. So new mani:

 So that took 3 coats of the Blue Moon it was super sheer. And to tell you the truth I absolutely hate it. I got it as part of a haul (post to come later!) and its really a very smooth formula but its like it won't dry completely. Its been over 24 hours and I can poke it with my nail and it leaves a dent :( But after finding out that April was blue for autism month I decided to do it. I still like the idea, maybe next time I'll stick to a darker, less sheer blue. As always, Thanks for stopping by :)
